Alfred Gene Bell
February 20, 1946 ~ June 13, 2017 (age 71)
Gene was born in Buckeye, Arizona on February 20, 1946, to the late Dorothy and Dude Bell. Gene was the oldest of 11 Bell children and spent his early years in and around Buckeye. In 1976 Gene moved to Indiana pursuing work opportunities. He worked at Monaco Coach for 30 years. After a short retirement, he went back to work as a skilled tradesman at Battisti Custom Incorporated. At Battisti he put his skills to work making custom limousines and other vehicles. He retired in December of 2016. Gene met and married the love of his life, Janice Mervilde, on February 25, 2001. Gene was a committed family man who teamed with his wife to care for her elderly Mother and Aunt. Gene was the consummate care giver. He was patient, loyal, diligent, and gentle. He was devoted to his loving wife, Charlie their dog, and a cadre of friends and relatives whose lives he touched. Gene and Janice were tailgating enthusiasts at every Notre Dame football game, rain, shine, or blizzard. Their tailgate was known as the place to stop for good spirit, love of the Irish, and constant optimism. Janice and Gene also enjoyed extensive travel and special occasions. This couple packed a lot of fun and good times into their marriage. Gene will be sorely missed by his family and friends, but his model for courage, commitment to helping people, and his pursuit of fun will continue to be models for all of us. Visitation will be on Friday, June 16, 2017 from 2:00PM to 4:00PM and 6:00PM to 8:00PM in Hahn Funeral Home. Services will be on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 10:00 am in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th St. Mishawaka. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
