Was put on the Indiana World War Records: Gold Star Honor Roll for those who died in service of their country in World War I, 1914-1918. It reads as follows:
Sylvester Kopinski, son of George and Antonia Kopinski; born 12-6-1893 in South Bend IN. Laborer. Enlisted in the US Regular Army 2-21-1915 in South Bend. Sent to Jefferson Barracks MO. Transferred to Ft. Bliss TX. Sailed overseas on 6-14-1917; assigned to Machine Gun Company, 18th Infantry. Participated in the battles of Ansonville, Villers Tournelle, and Soissons. Died 7-21-1918 from wounds received in action. Cited by Division Commander for bravery in action.
