SOUTH BEND - Ralph M. Layne Sr., 95, passed away at 8:52 AM on Monday, July 22nd, at Memorial Hospital after a short illness with his family by his side. Ralph was born on September 9, 1917, in Williamson, West Virginia. On September 13, 1943, in Pikeville, KY, he married the former Reba L. Kuzuski, who preceded him in death on February 18, 2013. In 1945 he moved to the Michiana area from Columbus, Ohio. In 1954 he opened Aetna Glass Company in South Bend, which he owned and operated until 2007 with his loving wife. Surviving are one daughter, Heni L. Ries of Bensenville, IL; one son, Monty (Sudie) Layne Jr. of South Bend; one sister, Betty Saleebs of Cincinnati, Ohio; six grandchildren, Lisa (Mike) Foldesi, Ron (Tammy) Ries, Monty (Michelle) Layne III, Roger Ries, Buffy Murphy and Hope Murphy; five great-grandchildren, Allison, Francine, Chris, Dominic and Brandon; and one great-great-granddaughter, Adalynn. Ralph was preceded in death by his loving wife, and 12 siblings. Ralph loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-granddaughter. You are not forgotten, loved one. Nor will you ever be. As long as life and memory last, We will remember thee. We miss you now, our hearts are sore. As time goes by we'll miss you more. Your loving smile, your gentle face, No one can fill your vacant place. Friends and family may visit today, July 25th, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Hanley and Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, South Bend. The funeral services will be held Friday, July 26th, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home, with Rev./ Fr. Chuck Herman officiating, and burial to follow at Southlawn Cemetery in South Bend, IN. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to American Heart Association of Northern Indiana, 6100 W. Washington St., Suite 200, Indianapolis, IN 46278. The HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Rd/ State Rd 23, South Bend, IN, handled arrangements and services and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Layne family.
