Richard C. Paskiet

MORGANTON, NC - Richard C. Paskiet, 85, passed away at 8:40 a.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2011, in Morganton, NC. Richard was born on July 6, 1925, in South Bend, to the late Casmer and Genevieve (Tobolski) Paskiet. On July 19, 1947, in South Bend, he married Rita (Stachowski) Paskiet, who preceded him in death on May 18, 1998. He is survived by his two children, Linda (Jay) Turner of Morganton, NC, and Richard Paskiet Jr. of San Diego, CA; and by his brother, Robert (Claudia) Paskiet of Ft. Myers, FL. Richard was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. After graduation, he honorably served his country for two years in the United States Navy - Air Corps, in the Philippines, China, Burma and India theaters of WW II where he received the Distinguished Flying Cross and four Air Medals. He was an Aviation Radioman First Class and was in Patrol Bombing Squadron 28 Black Cats. Richard retired as vice president of Research and Development at the South Bend Tribune after many years of service. He was a member of The Knights of Columbus #5570 and American Legion Post #357. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2011, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Garden in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the "Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund" at www.fallenheroesfund.org in R.C. Paskiet's memory. This fund is used to provide state-of-the-art treatment for wounded military heroes suffering from traumatic brain injury. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
