Ralph E. Megonnell, 86, of South Bend, Indiana passed away at 1:30 p.m. Monday, February 27, 2017 in his home. Ralph was born on December 28, 1930 in York Springs, Pennsylvania to the late Robert Russell Megonnell and Nora Mae (Stentz) Megonnell. He had lived in South Bend since 1948, coming from York Springs. Ralph retired in 1979 from Oliver, where he was employed as a welder for 30 years. On May 4, 1957, in South Bend, he married Gloria R. Kuskye, who survives. Also surviving are his three children, Tammy (Graig) Moore of Mishawaka, Indiana, Paul (Cathy) Whalen of New Carlisle, Indiana, and Ralph "Buddy" (Kay) Megonnell of Ypsilanti, Michigan; ten grandchildren, Travis and David Whalen; Velvet, Samantha, and Jeremy Moore; and Rick, Jessica, Mandy and Nakia Megonnell and Katrina Zinn; seventeen great-grandchildren; his daughter-in-law, Carmen Megonnell; his niece, Lois Megonnell. Ralph was preceded in death by two sons, Greg and Rick Megonnell; friends, Mike and Carmela Hollars; and his best friend, Paul T. "Tex" Bill.
A visitation will take place from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 6, 2017 in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive. Immediately following the visitation there will be a procession to Highland Cemetery, where members of the United States Army will conduct Military Rites.
Ralph was a Korean War Army Veteran. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the South Bend Maennerchor Club. Ralph loved to hunt, fish, and travel.
