MISHAWAKA - Fred P. Buda, 92, died on Monday, March 18, 2013, at the Golden Living Center, 12th Street, Mishawaka. He had been in ill health for several months. A lifelong resident of Mishawaka, Mr. Buda was a 1938 graduate of Mishawaka High School. Mr. Buda was a retired employee of the Lock Joint Tube Company. He had previously worked at the Studebaker Corp. for 24 years. Mr. Buda had a lifelong interest in music, especially that of the Big Band era. He played the trombone, piano and the drums, and he composed music as well. He was a former member of South Bend Federation of Musicians, Local 278, A.F. of M. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka, the IUE-CWA, and a 77-year member of the DeAmicis Club. He was born on February 10, 1921, in Mishawaka, to Enrico Buda and Margaret (Mercantini) Buda, who died in 1978 and 1980, respectively. A brother, Arthur, died in 2006. Surviving are a sister-in-law, Jeannette Ostrowski of San Diego, CA; a nephew, Kevin Buda of Mountain View, CA; two nieces, Jody (Buda) Bottger of Oceanside, CA, and Maureen (Buda) Mureno of San Diego, DA; and a cousin, Sam Mercantini of Mishawaka. Visitation will be on Friday, April 5, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12 p.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka, with Rev. Terry Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
