[N18051] David J. Karpinski
Jan. 19, 1941 - Nov. 10, 2017
SOUTH BEND - David John Karpinski, 76, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones after an extended illness. Dave was born to John Frank Karpinski and Victoria Doris Szymczak on January 19, 1941 in Toledo, Ohio. He married the love of his life, Patricia Ann (Besase-Tarsha-Green) Karpinski on November 23, 1968 in Toledo, Ohio. He was a loving husband, dad, grandparent, brother and uncle, with a great sense of humor. David worked as Accountant/Controller for 33 years at AM General in Toledo and South Bend until his retirement on December 20, 1994. He met his wife Pat while working at Kaiser Jeep as accountants in Toledo in 1965. He was transferred to AM General in the Niles Ave. accounting offices in South Bend in 1967. The following year he and Pat were married and they settled down to raise their family in South Bend. He retired in 1994 and spent 16 of his retirement years as an accountant for the Life Treatment Centers. David is survived by his beloved wife, Pat Karpinski. They would have celebrated their 49th anniversary on Thanksgiving Day. Also left to cherish his memory are three children: daughter Teri Karpinski Paul of South Bend; and two sons, Michael and wife Mary Karpinski of Zionsville IN, and David M. Karpinski of South Bend; his sister & brother in law, Arlene & Mel Wesolowski of Toledo, OH; grandchildren: Samantha (Chris) Landis, Tyler Paul, Michelle Karpinski, and grandchildren Paula Endicott, Matt (Bethany) Endicott, & Lori (Carlos) Endicott and their children Leah, Ethan, twins Isaiah, & Sam, and of course his 2 yr. old great-grandson Camden (Cam) Landis who lit up his face with his daily face time calls to say “Hi Pop”. Dave also leaves many dear nieces and nephews including Julie Wesolowski who was so close to his heart. He also leaves his in-laws, Sam & Joyce Besase, and Julie & Tim Spears. Dave had been a member of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church and was a regular volunteer for the past 10 years at many events at the South Bend Elks Lodge #235. Dave loved to golf, bowl, all sports, cooking, music and reading, but his best years were spent entertaining family and friends for wild and crazy Notre Dame football weekends. Those were the days, my friends. All who loved and knew him will miss him dearly. A special thank you to the staff of Southern Care Hospice for their care the past 3 weeks. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 14, 2017 from 4-8 pm at the McGann Hay, University Chapel, 2313 Edison Rd. east of Ironwood, South Bend. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held Wednesday at 11:00 am in the funeral home with visitation beginning one hour prior to service, Rev. Tim Lee, Southern Care Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Memorial donations may be made in Dave's memory to the South Bend Elk's Lodge #235, 3535 E. McKinley Ave., South Bend, IN 46615 or to a charity of your choice.
