SOUTH BEND - Aloysius T. Szumski, 85, of Healthwin Hospital and Nursing Home, formerly of North Johnson Street, died at 9 p.m. Thursday in Healthwin. Mr. Szumski retired in 1973 from AlliedSignal as a tool and die maker after more than 40 years of service.He was born May 25, 1908, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident. On July 2, 1935, in South Bend, he married Verna G. Niemier. She died in 1989. He is survived by three sons, Ronald, Ralph Joe and Thomas G., all of South Bend; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Dorothy Barczykowski, Gertrude Omat, and Bridget Wujcik, all of South Bend, and Harriett Froberger of Mount Clemens, Mich.; and a brother, Eugene of South Bend. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Santa Maria Council 553 and Holy Cross Catholic Church. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Kaniewski and Sons Funeral Home, where a parish rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or Alzheimer's Association.
