Helen V. Dies, 96, of New Carlisle, IN, passed away at 3:43 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Hamilton Communities in New Carlisle, IN. She was born on June 18, 1919 to the late Andrew and Anna (Wiederspan) Amen in Sterling, CO, and has lived in New Carlisle since 1952, coming from Michigan. Along with her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry H. Dies; sisters, Esther Scriven; Violet Schafer, Alma Dies; Florence Fritzler; and brothers, Victor, Alvin, and Leland Amen. Helen retired in 1982 from Easy Heat, Inc. in New Carlisle, IN, where she worked as a Sewing Technician for 27 years. On January 16, 1941, as Helen V. Amen, she married Harry H. Dies in Colorado. He passed away on October 21, 2005. Helen is survived by her two daughters, Judith "Judy" (Donald) Grzegorek of South Bend, IN; Joyce Penney of Vergas, MN; five grandchildren, Tim (Marilyn) Penney; Scott (Joy) Penney; Brett (Maggie) Grzegorek; Stephani Penney; five great-grandchildren, Andrew Penney; Alec Penney; Grace Helen Penney; Jack Penney; and Marissa Velez; two sisters, Lucille Amen of TN; Marlene Kubal of Chicago, IL; three brothers, Henry (LaVonna) Amen of Greely, CO; Jerry Amen of CO; Donald Amen of Colorado Springs, CO; and many special nieces & nephews.Helen was a member of New Carlisle Community Church, where she was very active as a volunteer for the church. Helen also volunteered along with her husband, Harry for Meals on Wheels for several years. She loved to cook for her family, especially on holidays; and was a very creative person. Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. E.S.T. on Friday, March 25, 2016 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert Street, New Carlisle, IN; and from 9-10 a.m. E.S.T. Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the New Carlisle Community Church, 201 W. Michigan Street, New Carlisle, IN.Funeral Services were held at 10:00 a.m. E.S.T. Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the New Carlisle Community Church. Burial followed in New Carlisle Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to: New Carlisle Community Church, 201 W.
