SOUTH BEND - Josephine V. Sopczynski, 90, of South Bend, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, in Healthwin Specialized Care Facility. She was born on August 23, 1924, in South Bend, to the late Joseph and Victoria (Rembleski) Olszewski, and was a lifelong area resident. On October 16, 1948, she married Richard G. Sopczynski, who preceded her in death on August 25, 2000. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Frances Nowacki, and her beloved cat, Smokey. Josephine is survived by her daughters, Vivian A. (Eugene) Vargo and Cynthia J. (Dave) Andrezejewski, both of South Bend; her sons, Dennis J. (Judy Oberhausen) Sopczynski of San Mateo, CA, Ronald J. (Diane) Sopczynski of South Bend and Larry (Diana) Sopczynski of Niles, MI; nine grandchildren, Adam (Mary) and Andrew (Maeve Rochford-Schulz) Hertel, Angela (Ryan) Champ, Anthony Sopczynski, Jessica (Aaron) Williams, Ryan and Kathlynn Sopczynski, and Olivia and Halley Shrock; four great-grandchildren, Delaney and Myla Williams, and Alexa and Aubrey Champ; and by a brother, Edward (Wanda) Olszewski of Stevensville, MI. Mrs. Sopcynski worked for Sears and Robuck for 23 years and Torrington for 10 years. She was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus B.M. Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Harvest House, Altar and Rosary Society, Bethany Ladies and Daughters of Isabella. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxilliary Post #357. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 pm Friday, September 19, 2014, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 4 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Saturday, September 20, 2014, in St. Stanislaus B.M. Catholic Church, with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
