LAPORTE - Mr. Stephen Kulwicki, 62, of LaPorte, passed away on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at 12:30 P.M. at his home after a battle with cancer. He was born on June 1, 1950, in South Bend, IN, to Robert and Evelyn (Botka) Kulwicki. He had lived in the area for 38 years. He retired as a Supervisor for AM General in South Bend and Mishawaka. On August 24, 1974, in Rolling Prairie, IN, he married Stephanie S. Laskoski, who survives. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, LaPorte. Stephen was a graduate of New Prairie High School, class of 1969, received his Associate Degree in supervision and management from Purdue University, was a U.S. Army Veteran 101st Airborne, served in Vietnam, belonged to Rolling Prairie V.F.W., and was a retired Volunteer Kankakee Township Fireman. Upon his retirement he assumed his favorite role as Papa to his special granddaughter, Mariella. Stephen is survived by his wife; 1 daughter, Kimberly (John) Martz of South Bend, IN; 1 son, Kurtis (Amy) Kulwicki of Memphis, TN; 1 granddaughter, Mariella Martz; 1 sister, Georgianne (Louie) Schroeder of Trail Creek, IN; 2 brothers, Greg (Lou Ann) Kulwicki of Murfreesboro, TN, and Jeff (Vicki) Kulwicki of Hudson Lake, IN; several nieces and nephews; and 2 brothers-in-law, Gerry (Nancy) Laskoski of Rolling Prairie, IN, and Larry (Lisa) Laskoski of Rolling Prairie, IN. There will be a prayer service at 5:00 P.M. Monday at the Essling Funeral Home. The visitation will be on Monday from 4-7:00 P.M. at the Essling Funeral Home. The memorial Mass will be 10 AM on Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Rev. Ian Williams officiating. (All times are CST). There will be a memorial service on Monday by the Kankakee Township Fire Department at 6:30 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or to the Kankakee Township Fire Department, 3 W.
