SOUTH BEND - Steve Finta 82, of South Bend, Indiana passed away peacefully with family at his bedside on Monday evening, August 15, 2016, at his son's home in Noblesville, Indiana. Steve was born on December 23, 1933, in Gyor Hungary to Lajos and Margit (Acs) Finta. As a child he grew up during World War II; and as a young adult fled his native Country during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 and immigrated to a Hungarian community in South Bend, Indiana to be with relatives. On September 26, 1959, he married Ilona (Helen) Koloszar, also having emigrated from Hungary (Pinnye) with her parents, and wed at Our Lady of Hungary Church. Steve learned how to repair industrial engines while in Hungary and used that skill to become an aircraft mechanic, eventually working his way up to repairing and maintaining jet aircraft for the Whirlpool Corporation. Steve lost his beloved wife of 23 years in 1982, and eventually retired in 2000 doing what he loved. Steve's hobbies included spending time with his family, gardening, ball room dancing, and photography; and in his later years, thoroughly enjoyed being with his favorite dogs Piper and Simon. Surviving family includes his Sister Magdolna Endroy, and niece and nephew Dora and Sandor Endroy of Hungary, son David (Laura) Finta of Noblesville, Indiana, five grandchildren Gabrielle, Nicholas, Erin, Sam and Megan; and Piper, the dog. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am Friday in Our Lady of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
