Jerome J. “Jerry” Jurek of Crosslake, Minnesota, died Tuesday (Oct. 23, 2018) at St. Cloud Hospital, St. Cloud, Minnesota. Jerry was born Jan. 4, 1941 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Frank and Gertrude Kampa Jurek. He attended Cathedral High School in St. Cloud until his junior year, then graduated from St. John's Preparatory High School in 1958. He continued his studies at St. John's University, Collegeville, Minnesota, graduating in 1962. From 1963-1965, Jerry served honorably in the U.S. Army, retiring with the rank of captain, 1st Battalion, 72nd Armor Division. He was extremely proud of his service to our country, continuing this service for several years as a member of the American Legion Post 500 in Crosslake, Minnesota. Jerry married Carylynn McCormick Jurek on Nov. 4, 1977. Jerry and Lynn have been the cornerstones for each other for nearly 41 years, and parents over the years to their golden retrievers, Charlie, Cody and Quincy. He spent his entire professional career with State Farm Insurance, Investments Division, retiring in 1998 after 33 years with the company. In addition to his career and family, Jerry loved fishing, hunting (with his dogs) and the outdoors of the Brainerd Lakes area. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Gertrude; his sister, Phyllis Brunn and brother, Roland. He is survived by his wife, Lynn; sons, Todd (Kristen) Jurek, Houston, Texas, and Tony (Lori) Jurek, Hudson, Wisconsin; daughters, Lynne Jurek, Houston, Texas, and Wendy (Barry) Roeber, Cannon Falls, Minnesota; brother, Virgil (Gayle) Jurek and sisters, Yvonne (Tom) Lynch, Mary Jo (Robert) Baker and Sandy (Dale) Anderson.
