ROSELAND - Eugene P. Szigeti, 84, of Roseland, Indiana, passed away at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013, in Hospice House. Eugene was born on October 13, 1928, in South Bend, to George and Gizella (Pazli) Szigeti. He was a lifelong resident. Eugene had been employed with Singer's and South Bend Parking. He retired on October 21, 1993, from both the City of South Bend, where he worked at the Waste Water Treatment Plant for 27 1/2 years, and Saint Mary's College where he had been employed for 20 years. On January 6, 1951, he married Patricia J. May. They would have been married 63 years on January 6, 2014. Survivors include his wife, Patricia; four daughters, Michelle Szigeti, Robin McCollum, Tamara (Don) Clark and Melanie (Ron) St. Germain, all of South Bend, Indiana; two sons-in-law, Tom Grant and Craig McCollum, both of South Bend, Indiana; five grandchildren, Christie Lee (Ambrose) Lofton, Cheryl (Erasmo) Chairez, Christopher Grant, Ashley McCollum and Matthew McCollum; nine great-grandchildren, James Bucher, Brandon Packer, Ambrasia Lofton, Alivia Lofton, Ambrose Lofton Jr., Erasmo Chairez III, Maria Chairez, Adriana Chairez and Gabrile Chairez; one great-great-grandchild, due in December; one sister, Elsie Miller of South Bend, Indiana; and one sister-in-law, Clara Szigeti of Las Vegas, Nevada. Eugene was preceded in death by his stillborn son, Scott Eugene Szigeti; one daughter, Kim Grant; one sister, Ella Kendziorski; and four brothers, George, Geza, Rudy and Emery Szigeti. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 11, 2013, in Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 until 8 p.m. Thursday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Eugene was a member of Christ the King Parish, Roseland Citizens Association, and the Howard Park Senior Center. He loved to bowl, play bingo, watch Westerns, take care of his yard and flowers, and decorate for all the seasons. He loved to help with community service projects in Roseland and to help all his neighbors around town. He especially enjoyed walking his dog Kelsey around the neighborhood. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Church, Center for Hospice Care, or Pet Refuge. Published in South Bend Tribune on October 8, 2013
