Lawrence "Larry" Jacob Desimone
August 8, 1931 - September 5, 2022
Lawrence "Larry" Jacob Desimone, 91, went to be with his blessed Savior on Monday, September 5, 2022, surrounded by his family, and in the home that he loved for so many years. Larry was the most genuine and caring man you will ever meet. He brought the love of Christ everywhere he went. Larry was born on August 8, 1931, in East St Louis, Illinois to Victor and Anna Desimone. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Ross Desimone and Mike Desimone, his sister Sarah Rothy, and his precious grandson Joseph Cramer. On April 14, 1956, in South Bend, he married his beautiful wife of 62 years Camille Desimone. They enjoyed a wonderful life together until her death in 2018. At 50 years of age, Lawrence made the decision to swim three times a week in order to be healthy enough to take care of his wife in their old age. In their later years, he lived out his vow to love her "in sickness and in health" and joyfully took care of his bride for the last three years of her life. Surviving are his three children, Cindi (Mike) Cramer of Mishawaka, Angie (Brian) Condon of Livonia Michigan, and Gino (Jan) Desimone of Granger; grandchildren, Michael (Jaymie) Cramer, Jacob (Julia) Cramer, Hannah (Jake) Hueni, Andrew (Morgan) Desimone, Angela (James) Byars, Anna (Matt) Miller, Rachel James, and Jessica (Josh) Buck; granddaughter-in-law Jodi (Joseph preceding) Cramer-Berry; 22 great-grandchildren, and a brother Vic Desimone of Osceola. Larry was a Senior Product Designer at South Bend Controls and retired in 1997. He spent his time after retirement helping his kids, going to his grandchildren's sporting events, gardening, and volunteering at St Joseph Medical Center where he brightened everyone's day with his warm smile, kind words, and his servant's heart. Larry came to know Jesus Christ when he was 48 years old and from that time on had a passion to know God and serve others. He was a faithful member of New Life Church, a Deacon for many years, and a pillar in the church, which he loved with all his heart. Larry's gift was serving others through kind words, encouraging cards, or helping behind the scenes wherever there was a need. You would often see him popping popcorn at church events, welcoming people coming to church as an usher, or taking prayer requests faithfully in his Sunday School class. Larry loved his family passionately and there was nowhere he would rather be than around his kids, grandkids and great-grandchildren. He is known to have said, "I have long ago discovered the treasure at the end of the rainbow, and Praise God, it is my family." That is exactly how he lived his life, treasuring his family and letting them know constantly how much he loved and appreciated them. His children never left the house without hearing their sweet father tell them how blessed he was to be their dad. He invested so much of his time in his children's lives when they were young, and it paid tremendous dividends as they became adults with their own families. He was more than a husband, dad, grandpa, or great-grandpa, he was a cherished friend, a man who was kind to everyone he met, who never lost his sense of humor, and a child of God who longed to see his sweet wife and precious Savior. He will be dearly missed. His smile, soft-spoken voice, cotto salami sandwiches, and his uncanny ability to always win at Aggravation will make our hearts smile for many years to come. Mark Twain once said, "Good fathers not only tell us how to live, they show us." Lawrence Jacob Desimone showed us all how to love God and cherish our families. Larry loved his Country and served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Military Honors will be conducted during the Graveside Service. Our deepest appreciation and love to the compassionate and incredible nurses and doctors at Promedica Hospice. There are no words to describe what their tender loving care meant to Larry and our family through these tough days. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 8 from 4-8 p.m. at Hahn Funeral home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral Services will be on Friday, 11:00 a.m., with Visitation one hour prior, at New Life Church, Osceola. Funeral Services will be conducted by Pastor Dr. Michael A. Cramer and Pastor Dr. Michael L. Cramer. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Life Church, 11593 McKinley Hwy. East, Osceola, IN 46561. To leave an online condolence or to share a memory, please visit www.hahnfuneralhomes.com or Hahn Funeral Home Facebook page.
