Mark David Foote
June 2, 1942 - August 23, 2022
Heaven received the quiet and gentle spirit of Mark David Foote, 80, on August 23, 2022. Mark was born June 2, 1942 in Iron Mountain, Michigan to Edward and Frances Foote. Upon graduating from Sandusky High School, in 1960, he attended Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio and graduated in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. Staying true to his alma matter he remained a loyal Buckeye fan throughout his entire life. This was particularly evident during the college football season. Upon his university graduation, Mark enrolled in the United States Navy Officer Training Academy and achieved the rank of lieutenant. He served aboard the ship, the USS Genesee, a fuel supply vessel for military vehicles utilized in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1969. During his years of service, he met Donna Chiapetta, a registered nurse in the United States Army Nurse Corp. They married on April 11, 1970 in Schenectady, New York and continued a friendly Army/Navy rivalry throughout their marriage. Mark and Donna moved to the Bremen, Indiana area where Mark led a career as a material management administrator in the recreational vehicle industry spanning over 30 years. Mark was actively involved in his church as he served on the elder board along with other various ministry and outreach programs. An avid reader, Mark enjoyed discussing a variety of books; with special interest in biographies and historical events. He loved spending a considerable portion of his time, especially in his retirement years, visiting his family and grandchildren. Hosting breakfasts containing generous portions of his signature blueberry pancakes was always a favorite with his grandchildren. As a nature enthusiast, Mark enjoyed spending time outdoors and enjoying God’s creation by working in the garden, feeding and watching birds, and taking many trips to experience the wonder and beauty of the Smoky Mountains. Surviving is Mark’s wife of 52 years, Donna Foote of Bremen, IN; 2 children: Annmarie (Russell) Betz of Lakeland, FL and David Joseph (Elizabeth) Foote of Lathrup Village, MI; 6 grandchildren: Christen, Benjamin, and Emma Betz and Anna, Caleb, and Vincent Foote; and 1 great grandson Malakai Lessa. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, sister and son Michael Foote.Family and friends may call from 4-7 p.m., Friday; September 9, 2022 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home in Nappanee and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service at Nappanee Missionary Church Chapel on Saturday, September 10th.
