Bakshy A. Chibber
February 1, 1948 - December 25, 2022
Bakshy A. Chibber, of South Bend, IN, born February 1, 1948, in Delhi, India, died on December 25, 2022, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, in Mishawaka, IN. He was 74 years old. Bakshy grew up in Delhi, India with his family, where he still has several relatives. After earning his undergraduate degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, he left India to attend the University of Waterloo in Canada, earning his Ph.D. in chemistry. He then moved to the United States and completed his post-doctoral fellowship at Purdue University, where he met his first wife Beth Ann Oatess. After their marriage, they spent a brief period in Germany where Bakshy worked as a research scientist. They returned to Indiana in 1982 when Bakshy took a position as a research professor with the University of Notre Dame, a position he held until his retirement in 2010. In 1989, when Beth Ann lost her battle with breast cancer, Bakshy raised their two young daughters as a single dad for three years. Then, in 1992, he found love again and married Denise Kuklenski. Together, they raised their five children and took many family vacations, including a trip to India in 2000 to reconnect with family. Bakshy is remembered fondly by his many friends and relatives from India to California to New York. His studies and his career took him around the world, but he maintained close connections with loved ones from near and far throughout his life, always remembered to call on birthdays, and enjoyed telling stories of his many adventures. He will be dearly missed. Bakshy was preceded in death by his parents Ved Bhushan and Damanyanti Bakshy; his previous wife Beth Ann Chibber; his sons Eshan and Raman Chibber; his brother Atul Chhibber; his nephew Vivek Datta; his niece Mona Datta; and special friend T. Viswanatha. He is survived by his wife Denise Chibber, with whom he recently celebrated 30 years of marriage; his sister Alka (Virender) Datta; his daughters Shanti (Josh) Bradley and Shalina (Alex) Schaefer; his stepsons Steven (Denna) Stinson and Chris (Lisa Tung) Stinson; nine grandchildren Leena, Jai, and Garrett Bradley, Evan and Max Schaefer, Katherine and Aaron Stinson, and Lucy and Henry Stinson; nieces and nephews; two great-nieces; and many special friends, among them Brian Martin, Arun Kochhar, and Pravajit Singh. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with the funeral following at 12:00 p.m., at the McGann Hay, University Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Rd.
