South Bend - Gary Van Lake Blasko, 65, passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 in Memorial Hospital. Gary was born May 23, 1952 to the late Michael and Katherine (Kratz) Blasko. On August 6, 1988, Gary married Virginia (Bloom) Van Lake; she preceded him in death on Feb. 1, 2013.Survivors of Gary include his daughter, Angela (Ron) Buck of Bristol, IN; brother, Ray (Deborah) Van Lake; sister, Sue Shidaker; niece, Koren Knapp of Chicago; caregiver, Teresa “Terri” Van Lake; step-children, Laura Johnston and Michelle (James) Shelley; step grandchildren, Amanda, Branden, Will, Steven, Nicole, Guy and Roselyn. Gary retired from the South Bend Community School Corp. He was a member of the Kitchenette coffee club, where he enjoyed a good cup of coffee. Gary also enjoyed cigarettes, cookies, cars, playing cards, going to the casino, travelling and cruises.
A visitation will be held 12:00pm to 1:00pm, Tuesday, May 8th, 2018 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. where a Funeral Service will begin at 1:00pm at the Funeral Home. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery. Gary’s family would like to thank, West Bend Nursing Staff, Memorial Hospital 10 & 12 South and Heart to Heart Hospice for their care during a difficult time.
