=============
"A rose still grows beyond the veil."
She was born as NOMA Marian Farrester to William Andrew Jackson Farrester and Emma Lou Lusk on September 14, 1908, in Scottsboro, Alabama. Noma was a sister to William Raymond Farrester, Burgess Farrester, Mattie Farrester, and Mary Farrester. Noma was first married to Carl Harbin and gave birth to Grover Marion Harbin and Thomas Carl Harbin. Then she married Lawrence Percy Shew and had twin sons, Robert Lee and Louis. It is around this time, the early 1930s, that she started using the first name "Norma" and many of her personal documents past that date reflect the name change. Norma married George Washington Vercolio on January 16, 1939, in Vermillion County, Indiana. They had one daughter: Georgiana. They were married until her death on August 28, 1982. Norma was known to be a giving woman. She would feed and house any stray, whether it be a person or a pet, that showed up on her doorstep. Norma was an excellent cook and co-owned two restaurants. One with her sister Mary in Lafayette, Indiana, and one with her husband George, in the 1950s. Vercolio's Grill, known as "The Hole" to the local teens, was the best place on the west side of South Bend, Indiana, to grab a burger and listen to the jukebox. Norma and George spent their retirement years in Ormond Beach, Florida. Norma loved to cook, visit with family and friends, play card and board games, and watch her "stories" on TV. She especially loved Ladies Roller Derby, and Tina Turner ... which always made me laugh. Her favorite song was "Country Roads" by John Denver. Known as "Granny" to me, Norma Marian Farrester Vercolio was my grandmother. I am the youngest of her twelve grandchildren and we lived together for many years; I helped my mother take care of her during her final months of life. She passed away on August 28,1982, after a terrible battle with lung cancer. It was my 17th birthday. As per her wishes, she was taken to Alabama and buried in a family plot at Shiloh Cemetery, in Ryland Alabama, which is near Huntsville.
May she rest in peace.

~St. Francis Prayer For Peace~
Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is error, truth;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
~ O Divine Master ~
Grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
~Amen
