SOUTH BEND, IN - Jerome Charles “Spud” Egierski, 87, of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019. Jerome was born on August 31, 1931 in South Bend, to the late John M. and Helen (Urbanski) Egierski. On May 29, 1954 he married his high school sweetheart, Gloria G. Smorin, who survives. Jerry is survived by two daughters, Nancy Jo (Mike) Skodinski of South Bend, Indiana and Janice M. (Robert) Canter of Granger, Indiana; two sons, Daniel (Cindy) Egierski of Newburgh, Indiana and Ronald (Paige) Egierski of Granger, Indiana; ten grandchildren: Ryan (Natalie) Egierski, Lauren (Kevin) Mayoux, Amber (Riley) Smith, Chelsea Egierski, Stacie Skodinski, Collin Skodinski, Jamie (Patrick) O'Rear, Chad Canter, Matthew (Meredith) Canter, and Joseph Canter; and two great-grandchildren, Edward Charles Egierski and Brian Andrew O' Rear. A great-granddaughter is due in February, 2019. He is also survived by one sister, Delores Lootens. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Irene Witkowski, Adeline Otto, and Catherine Borkowski; and two brothers, John Egierski and George Eager. Jerry was a 1951 graduate of Riley High School, where he met his wife. They married in 1954 when Jerry got out of the service. Jerry worked for Uniroyal for thirty-six years. He was also a member of the Morris Park Country Club Golf Course staff for over ten years. He was a lifelong fan of Notre Dame football and the Chicago Cubs baseball. He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church at 11:00 am. A visitation will take place at the church from 10:00 until 11:00 am, prior to the Mass. Private family burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jerome's honor to Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Online condolences to the family may be left at www.kaniewski.com.
