SOUTH BEND - Robert F. Chmilewski, 81, died at 5:58 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, in Memorial Hospital.
Robert was born on March 5, 1925, in New Carlisle, IN, to the late John and Frances Chmilewski.
On March 18, 1978, he married Dorothy Kochmar in South Bend. She survives along with two sons, David (Laurie) Chimel of Osceola, IN, and Paul Schimel of Galien, MI; two grandsons, Todd (Christy) Chimel of Noblesville, IN, and Jamie Chimel of Wakarusa, IN; three great-grandchildren, Brody Schimel, and Corinne and Sarah Beth Chimel; stepson, Mark Kochmar of South Bend; stepdaughter-in-law, Cheryl Kochmar of South Bend; stepdaughter, Michele (Joseph) Papandria of Brownsburg, IN; two stepgrandsons, Nicholas (Jessica) Papandria of Muncie, Mark Kochmar Jr. of South Bend; and a step-granddaughter, Kayleigh Kochmar of South Bend.
Robert worked in the wholesale grocery business, Mastic Corp, and then retired from Dodge Manufacturing. He belonged to American Legion #357 of South Bend, St. Joseph Young Men's Society of South Bend and of Michigan City, Fraternal Order of Eagles #2083 of Mishawaka, MR Falcons #4 of South Bend, and Bowlers Country Club of South Bend.
He enjoyed fishing and golfing. He loved Polish music, and to spend time with family and friends.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 South Mayflower Road, South Bend, where a Rosary will be prayed. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, January 12, at 1 p.m. in Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
