John S. Slomski, 69, of 120 Marquette Ave., died at 10pm Sunday in Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He retired in 1966 from the Bendix Corp. where he had been employed 41 years.Born June 11, 1901, in South Bend, he had lived here his lifetime. On November 29, 1923, he married Josephine Kaczmarek, who survives, along with two sons, John J and Charles, both of South Bend; a daughter, Mrs. Betty Lou Deffley, of Lowell MA; two grandchildren; a brother, Chester of South Bend and seven sisters, Mrs. Severine Kaczmarek of Elgin IL, Mrs. Margaret Bass of Niles, Mrs. Adeline Cytacki, Mrs. Helen Niezgodski, Mrs. Esther Wesolowski, Mrs. Louise Kapalczynski and Mrs. Clara Kopinski, all of South Bend. Friends may call from 7 to 9pm Tuesday and 2 to 9pm Wednesday in Kaniewski & Sons Funeral Home. Services will be at 10am Thursday in Holy Cross Catholic Church, Rev. William J. Neidhart, CSC, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St Joseph Cemetery. Mr. Slomski was a WW I and WW II veteran. He was a member of the Golden Hills Post 8748, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
