SOUTH BEND - Ruth M. Bjorkland, 83, of South Bend passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. She passed peacefully with her family by her side. She was born on October 25, 1934 in Braddock, PA to the late Frank and Louise (Thomas) Bostedo. On September 27, 1952 in Monroeville, PA she married Elmer W. “Bill” Bjorkland, who preceded her in death on November 17, 2017. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Louise Cushman. Ruth is survived by her two sons, Robert W. (Jean) Bjorkland and Don K. Bjorkland both of Mishawaka; four grandchildren, Matthew (Angela) Bjorkland, Christopher Bjorkland, Nicholas Bjorkland, and Jessica Bjorkland; and four great-grandchildren, Chloe, Sophia, Zoey, and Heyden, all whom she loved and cherished. Ruth and her husband moved to the Michiana area 59 years ago, coming from Pennsylvania. She worked for Van Horne Jewelry Store, and then worked as a Stenographer for a local attorney. She also loved to serve and volunteer for many different organizations: Team Little League Mom, Morris Matthys Little League Park Board, Navarre PTA, Ladies Auxiliary, the Coffee Shop at Memorial Hospital, and Warren Township Park Board and Park Maintenance. Ruth loved sewing and was an amazing seamstress. She also enjoyed camping, the Chicago Cubs, and she especially loved her family and going to all her grandchildren's sporting events. Ruth will be dearly missed by her loving family, Lydick United Methodist church family, and numerous friends she made during her life journey. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home “Southwest Chapel” located at State Road 23/W. Ireland Road, South Bend with Pastor Momcilo Vincic officiating. Friends may visit one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Private Inurnment will take place at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Ave., Staten Island, NY 10305.
