SOUTH BEND - Betty J. Lagocki, 89, of South Bend, passed away on Monday October 28, 2013, in Milton Home, South Bend. She was born on January 28, 1924, in South Bend, to the late John J. and Stella M. (Hudak) Pierzynski. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ervin, a sister, Melvina Wendel and her husband Fred, and by her niece, Sharon Balog. On May 16, 1945, in St. Stanislaus B.M. Church she married Ervin W. Lagocki. They were united in marriage for 59 1/2 years at the time of Ervin's passing. Betty is survived by her four nieces, Carol (Jerry) Grontkowski of Granger,IN Susan (Bill) Spier of Rolling Prairie,IN, Gail Peczkowski of Naperville, IL and Sandy (Tim) Golichowski of Granger, IN; a nephew, Jim Piechocki of Kalamazoo, MI; three great nieces, Jodi (Steve) Sass, Erin (Brandon) Smith, Hannah Golichowski; four great nephews, David (Janetta) Balog, Jeff (Ashley) Grontkowski, Cody Piechocki and Luke Golichowski; four great-great nieces, Sarah Sass, Lindsey Sass, Lexie Balog, and Jaimie Balog; and three great-great nephews, Benjamin Balog and Elliott and Tucker Smith; and by a sister-in-law, Gloria (Ernie) Piechowski. Betty was a homemaker and was the second president of the Knights of Columbus Ladies, Arch Bishop Carol Council #5570, the past president of Apostleship of Prayer at St. Stanislaus and a member of the choir there. She was also vice president for the Elks Auxiliary, South Bend Lodge #235. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church at 1 pm on Wednesday October 30, 2013, with Rev. Charles Herman officiating. Visitation will take place at the church for one hour prior to the Mass. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Church.
