Sept. 7, 1916 - July 24, 2016
MISHAWAKA - Jean L. Kuhn, 99, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 24, 2016 in Three Rivers, MI. Jean was born on September 7, 1916 in South Bend to Michael and Marta (Lukowski) Grabarczyk. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Stana Boehnlein, Adele Haverstock and Sabina Dvoracek. She graduated from East Chicago Washington High School and worked at Bike Webb Factory in South Bend where she met her husband of 63 years, when he worked at Torrington across the street. Her favorite job, though was being a waitress at the Mayfair Restaurant in Mishawaka where she met lifelong friends. She was active in the Rosary Society of St. Joseph Parish, Mishawaka and enjoyed many years of working at the polls during the election years. On August 30, 1941 she married Lawrence Kuhn. He preceded her in death on May 24, 2014. Surviving are her children, Barbara (Ralph) Timby of Three Rivers, MI, Tom (Susan) Kuhn of Three Rivers, Laurie (Jim) Highfield of Mishawaka and Susan (Ray) Bieganski of Osceola, 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren with #26 due in January. Jean loved her little cottage on Pleasant Lake in Three Rivers which lovingly was called “Kuhn's Kastle”. Her favorite pastimes were playing Euchre with family and her Rosary Circle, campfires at the lake, s'mores, popcorn, picking strawberries and blueberries, baking cinnamon rolls and her famous garlic toast, family cook outs, Kuhn Khristmas, 4th of July picnics, fireworks and “farklers”, polkas, watching Jeopardy, and Notre Dame Football. She loved her family fiercely; all were perfect in her eyes. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 27 from 4 to 8 with a Rosary at 5:30 p.m., in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, July 28 at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka with Rev. Chris Lapp and Rev. Rich Conyers officiating. Entombment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
