Edwin W. Plonski

SOUTH BEND - Edwin W. Plonski, 84, passed Friday, September 19, 2014, in Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Edwin was born June 2, 1930, in South Bend, to Walter and Eleanora (Makowski) Plonski. Edwin was also preceded in death by his brothers, Edward, Harry and Brock Plonski; and sisters, Sophie Verhaegen, Julia Kreczmer and Virginia VanCuren. On October 18, 1969, in South Bend, Edwin married his loving wife of 45 years, Judith (Cabanaw) Plonski. She survives along with their children, Edwin (Dawn) Plonski II of South Bend, Elaine (Chris Basker) Webb of South Bend and Eleanor (Scott) Taberski of South Bend; grandchildren, Allison Webb, Jonathon Plonski and Mathew Plonski; sister-in-law, Patricia Paturalski; brother-in-law, Joseph (Angela) Caba-naw Jr.; and many nieces and nephews. Edwin honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Through the years Edwin was employed with Studebaker, Bendix, and retired in 1997 from Hoosier Spring. He was a member of the American Legion 357, Anchor Conservation Club, and he was bartender at Anchor Inn for twenty-five years. Edwin enjoyed watching Notre Dame football, Cubs baseball and Indiana University basketball. He loved to tell stories. Most of all, Edwin loved spending time with his grandchildren. Visitation for Edwin will be 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, September 23, 2014, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., with a Rosary to be prayed at 5:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Wednesday at St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
