Martha Csatlos
Oct. 27, 1928 - June 20, 2015
SOUTH BEND - Martha Csatlos passed into eternal life Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Wellbrooke of South Bend. Martha was born in Oros, Szabolcs Megye, Hungary to George and Anna Palsak on October 27, 1928. She married Gabor Csatlos on April 7, 1947 in Hungary. They immigrated to the United States with their three daughters and settled in South Bend in 1967. Surviving are her three daughters, Margaret (Gabor) Oross, Martha Pocza and Gabriella Grammatica, 10 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband in 1987, a brother, George and son-in-law, Steven. She was very devoted to her family who all affectionately referred to her as Anyu, Hungarian for mom. Her joy in the company of people and love of family, co-workers, neighbors, and friends were obvious to all who knew her. She enjoyed cooking for her grandkids, took great delight in other people's happiness, mourned with those who were sad, and non-judgmentally loved people, especially children. Her passion was gardening. She tended not only her own vegetable and flower gardens but those of her daughters as well. She enjoyed walking and engaging in friendly conversation along the way. She was a model of humble piety and prayer for her family. She truly imitated her Lord in humility, simplicity, sincerity, generosity, forgiveness, and service. Martha first worked at the University of Notre Dame in food services, then spent the rest of her career at Saint Joseph's Care Center at Morningside and with Sisters of Holy Cross as a cook and in domestic services for 23 years. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Friday, June 26, 2015 in Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 5-8 Thursday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. Donations in her name may be made to Milton Adult Day Services at 922 E. Colfax Ave., South Bend, IN 46617; Heartland Hospice Care, 826 W. Edison Rd., Mishawaka, IN 46545; or Christ the King Catholic Church on State Rd 933. Published in South Bend Tribune on June 23, 2015
