SOUTH BEND - Mr. Marion Frank Stachowiak, 89, passed away peacefully Friday with loved ones by his side at the Sanctuary of St. Paul's. Mr. Stachowiak was born in South Bend on December 2, 1923, to the late Anthony and Hattie Stachowiak. On September 24, 1949, he married his loving wife of almost 64 years, the former Isabelle Therse Goszczynski, who survives of South Bend. Also surviving are a son, Christopher (Lisabeth) Stachowiak of Lake Zurich, IL; two daughters, Carol Anne (Ross) Smith of South Bend, Emily (Cody) Hammons of Wetumpka, AL. Marion was the proud grandfather of a granddaughter, Samantha (Alex) Loeb of Seattle, WA; and two grandsons, Brian and Neil Smith, both of South Bend. Two sisters, Loretta Futa and Jeanette Jasinski, both of North Liberty, IN, also survive. He was a member of St. Anthony's Parish; he was an Army veteran of WW II; he was a member of American Legion Post 284 where he held various offices and served 2 terms as Commander, and was a member of the 40 & 8 and VFW Post 1959 . Friends may call Thursday from 4-8 pm at McGann Hay, Forest G. Hay Chapel, 435 S. Ironwood across from St. Anthony's. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am Friday at St. Anthony dePadua Catholic Church, with Rev. David Ruppert, Pastor, officiating. Entombment and full military honors will follow at St. Joseph PRC Cemetery.
