SOUTH BEND - Gladys Wojtasik, 97, passed away at 3:50 a.m. Monday, December 3, 2012, under the care of The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care of South Bend, Indiana. Gladys was born April 8, 1915, in Buffalo, NY, to the late Martin and Maryanne (Wrobel) Szklarek. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Bert, and by four brothers. Survivors of Gladys include her children, Patricia (Ray) Dembinski of Sycamore, IL, Richard Wojtasik and Robert (Deborah) Wojtasik, all of South Bend; three grandsons, Tim (Elizabeth) Dembinski of Lake Buff, IL, Todd (Chantel) Dembinski of Antioch, IL, and Joseph Wojtasik of South Bend; 2 great-grandsons, 2 great-granddaughters, one step-great-granddaughter, and two step-great-great-granddaughters; and sister, Theresa (Chester) Mackowiak, South Bend. Gladys was a parishioner of St. Adalbert Catholic Church where she was a member of the Rosary Society, The Daughters of Isabella, The Harvest House and the PTA. Gladys was the secretary to God and Country Group #335, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #357, the Polish Women's Alliance of South Bend, and the Westside Democratic Club. She loved cooking and baking, especially Polish favorites. Visitation for Gladys will be 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today, December 5, 2012, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 6, 2012, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, Indiana 46637.
