SOUTH BEND - Anna Mae Smigielski, 81, of South Bend, Indiana passed at 6:15 p.m., Friday, August 9, 2013 in Memorial Hospital. Anna Mae was born on February 7, 1932 in South Bend to Sven and Margaret (Myers) Jernstrom, and was a lifelong resident. She retired in 1996 from the University of Notre Dame. She had also been employed with The Associates. On May 21, 1955, in South Bend, she married Arthur J. Smigielski, who preceded her in death on August 19, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia M. (Donald) Wesolowski of South Bend, Indiana, and Diane L. (Toy) Villa of South Bend, Indiana; three sons, Thomas J. (Sandra) Smigielski of South Bend, Indiana, Michael D. (Melissa) Smigielski of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and David A. Smigielski of South Bend, Indiana; eleven grandchildren, Stacey (Neil) Gappa, Joe Wesolowski, Amanda (Michael) Martin, Nicholas Malijan, Matthew and Rachel Smigielski, Kevin (Amanda) Smigielski, Jason (Holly) Smigielski, and Matthew, Justin, and Adam Villa; six great-grandchildren, Kiley Martin, Jack Martin, Ayden and Addyson Smigielski, and Cameron and Miles Gappa; her sister, Shirley Rzeszewski of South Bend, Indiana; and her brother, Thomas (Jane) Jernstrom of Elkhart, Indiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2013 in Holy Family Church. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. TODAY in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, where a Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Anna Mae was a member of Holy Family Parish.
