Frances M. Nowak
Dec. 26, 1930 - Feb. 2, 2011
MISHAWAKA - Frances "Fran" M. Nowak, 80, of Mishawaka, IN (formerly of N. Meade Street in South Bend) went to heaven at 3:35 p.m. Wednesday, February 2, 2011. She was born on December 26, 1930 to the late Joseph and Angela (Kwestorowski) Kopczynski in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident. Along with her parents; her two brothers, Walter and Chester Kopczynski also preceded her in death. Mrs. Nowak was employed at Bendix Corporation as a secretary and at McCormick Foods. She retired from Defense Contract Administrative Services in South Bend, IN, where she worked as a Procurement Clerk for 14 years. On December 30, 1950, as Frances "Fran" M. Kopczynski, she married her former husband, Raymond W. Nowak in South Bend, IN. He passed on October 3, 1996. She is survived by three daughters, Jenifer Anderson of South Bend, IN; Mary Jo Nowak of Rochester, NY; Julie Rae (Christopher) Calhoun of South Bend, IN; one son, Randy Nowak of South Bend, IN; six grandchildren, Valerie, Max, and Angela Maternowski; Oliver Anderson; Vincent and Raymond Calhoun; two sisters, Sally Szymanski of South Bend, IN; and Josephine Nalepinski of South Bend, IN. Fran's many talents and generosity touched many. Fran enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, and baking pies and breads. Fran loved to travel, read, write poetry, strum her guitar, go to mass, and shop!- always bringing a smile to her beautiful kids, grandkids, and friends. Fran's spontaneity, special handmade treats and the twinkle in her eye will always be with us. Our Mom (grandmother Hamma) struggled and overcame health issues in the past 10 years and always found ways to compromise, and make the best of the situation. Her wish was to see her children and grandchildren grow. We will miss her wit, her humor, her strength, her courage, but mostly her unexpected phone calls and her love she gave each and every one of us. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, February 4, 2011 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a rosary will be said at 5:00 p.m. Friends may also visit from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend, IN, with Rev. Daryl Rybicki officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: Center for the Homeless, 813 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, IN 46601.
