MISHAWAKA - Mary Erick, 89, of Mishawaka, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2013. Mary was born June 10, 1923, in South Bend, a daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth (Lakatos) Hadary. She grew up in South Bend where she attended St. Stephen's School and Washington High School. On October 11, 1941, Mary married Robert "Bob" L. Erick. They moved to Mishawaka in the late 1940s. Mary was employed for 25 years at Burcliff Industries in Mishawaka and retired in 1985. She was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Mishawaka and was involved with their seniors group. Mary volunteered for many years at St. Joseph Hospital in Mishawaka. She was a wonderful cook and did considerable canning from their garden. Mary and Bob enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing. Mary's surviving family includes her three daughters, Kathleen (Edward) Schrader of South Bend, Patricia (fianc©b, Louis Pola) Erick of Mishawaka and Jennifer (Jeffrey) Rankin of Osceola; six grandchildren, Jason Schrader, Steven Rankin, Lori (Lee) Hagadorn, Jamie (Prabhat) Kharga, Jeff (Jennifer) Schrader and Kevin Schrader; ten great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; a son, Larry L. Erick; two brothers, Michael and Frankie Hadary; and two sisters, Julia Smith and Elizabeth Collings. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:30 am in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 4508 Vistula Road, Mishawaka, with Rev. Daniel Scheidt officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may spend time with Mary's family today (Thursday) from 5 - 7 pm in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, and Friday from 9:30 - 10:30 am in the church. Memorials are suggested to the Center for Hospice Care. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
