SOUTH BEND - Eugene F. Vande Zande, 85, passed away 1:17 am on Sunday, June 3, 2012, in the Hospice House. Eugene was born August 10, 1926, in South Bend, to the late Felix and Martha (Scherpereel) Vande Zande. Eugene was also preceded in death by brothers, Edward, Charles and Ron Vande Zande. On October 1, 1949, in St. Casmir Catholic Church, Eugene married Patricia Wentland, who survives along with children, Terry (Virgil) Cross of Tallahassee, Florida, Kay Fry of Anderson, Indiana, Kathy (John) Kempner of Anderson, Indiana, Lisa (Jim) Zimmerman of Oxford, Indiana, Mark (Michelle) Vande Zande of Wyoming, Michigan, and Paul (Vickie) Vande Zande of Belvedere, Illinois; fifteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren; and brothers, Jack Vande Zande of Edwardsburg, Michigan, and Robert "Bob" (Billie) Vande Zande of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Eugene honorably served his country in the United States Army. He was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church. He retired from the Nibco Corporation as a Tool Designer, enjoyed working in his flower garden, model trains, airplanes, and was an avid Notre Dame fan. Eugene was busy with hobbies of all kinds; he was known as a "Jack of all Trades." Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, June 6, 2012, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 7, 2012, in Holy Family Catholic Church . Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, 56405 Mayflower Road, South Bend, IN 46619; or to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
