SOUTH BEND - Gerald John “Sobie” Sobieralski of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, January 9th. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Sophie Sobieralski, his sister, Betty Sobieralski, and his companion, Gretchen “Gretchie” Guzicki. He is survived by a brother, Sonny, and three children, Dawn McCoy, Damian Sobieralski, and Dominic Sobieralski. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Ryan McCoy and Dedric Wray-Sobieralski. Gerald was born October 12, 1938, in South Bend, Indiana. Gerald served in the United States Marine Corps where he held the rank of Lance Corporal before getting an honorable discharge. He also had over two decades of dedicated service for Bethlehem Steel in Burns Harbor, Indiana, before he retired in the early 1990s. Gerald enjoyed and participated in the sports of bodybuilding and professional wrestling throughout the 1970s and 1980s. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 284, St. Joseph Young Men's Society, and the Chain-O-Lakes Conservation Club. Memorial arrangements are being handled by Hanley and Sons Funeral Home “Southwest Chapel”. The date and time for a Celebration of Life is tentatively set for this Spring. Friends and family will be notified of the date and time of the event as it approaches from the family via Gerald's Facebook.
