Richard John Van Es Sr., 86, of South Bend, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 31, 2022 following complications from a recurring illness. Richard was born in Granger, Indiana on February 8, 1936, to the late Peter and Johanna (Kwist) Van Es. On August 12th, 1956, Richard married Barbara Frick in South Bend and they spent 62 loving years together before her passing in 2019. Richard is survived by his son Richard Van Es Jr. (Rick), his wife and Richard Sr.’s primary caretaker, Mary, and his daughter Tammy Patrick. Richard is also survived by his four grandchildren: Colin and Haley Van Es, and Ben and Thomas Patrick as well as his brother, Paul Van Es. In addition to his wife Barbara, Richard was also preceded by his siblings: Maryann Wright, Marie Rayl, Cory Butler, Peter Van Es Jr., John Van Es, and Anthony Van Es. Richard lived a life dedicated to his faith and his family. As a lifetime resident of the area, the owner of Pastry World Bake Shop and a minister in the New Apostolic Church, Richard touched the lives of so many people and will be truly missed. Rick and his family would like to thank the Community Hospital of Bremen for their compassionate care during his father’s stay. They would also like to thank those who spent time with him prior to his passing. Funeral Services for Richard will be Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 12:00 PM at New Apostolic Church 5602 Ironwood Dr. South Bend, IN 46614. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Palmer Funeral Home - Welsheimer North Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
