Debbie Cossey, 61, of South Bend passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Brickyard Healthcare in Mishawaka. Debbie was born on January 16, 1961, in Mishawaka to the late James Rospopo and Betty (Odle) Harris. She spent her life in the South Bend area working as a baker and cook, owning and operating The Pastry Shop in Mishawaka. Debbie met and married Jeffrey Cossey on August 18, 1979, sharing 43 years of marriage together. Debbie is survived by her husband and her children; Alena Cossey of South Bend and Dwayne (Jennifer) Cossey of Seattle. Also surviving are her sisters, Donna and Melissa of Alabama and her brother, James of Illinois. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Kayla and Grace. Debbie was a funny and sassy lady who loved her family and friends with all her heart. She was known by all who met her to be the sweetest and most caring person. Her strength of character in difficult times was truly admirable, and that strength is evident to those that know how hard she fought for her life for years. She joins in heaven, her beloved Allie dog who was an important member of the family. In keeping with Debbie’s wishes, no services will be held at this time. A Celebration of Life/Garden Party will be held in the Spring of 2023. The family will send out a notice of the dates at a later time. Palmer Funeral Home-West Chapel and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family.
