Stephen Brzezinski, a street cleaner for South Bend, Indiana, died from injuries received when he was struck by a horse pulling a buggy. The notice of his death published two days later on Mon., May 12, 1902, in the South Bend Times said that he was born in Posen, Russia.
His funeral was held from St. Hedwige Catholic Church with burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery. The 1900 federal census of South Bend indicates that he, 67, his wife, Maryanna, 60, and son Joseph, 15, had immigrated in 1891, and that she had had twelve children of whom five were living. Maryanna died in 1908, and according to her death notice in the South Bend Times and the interment records of St. Hedwig Catholic Church, she was buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery. She has no identified grave marker.
