SOUTH BEND - Joseph Ferkis, 91, of New London, New Hampshire, formerly of South Bend, died Wednesday, August 29, 2012, in New London Hospital. Joseph was born on June 24, 1921, in Nagylozs Sopron Megyi, Hungary, to John and Anna (Horvath) Ferkis. He was the owner of Joe's Specialty Shoe Shop and Ferkis Vinyl Slitting. His hobbies included bee-keeping and gardening. Mr. Ferkis was a member of Our Lady of Hungary Church and its Hungarian choir. On June 18, 1950, in Hungary, he married the former Agnes Szalai. She died on October 22, 1987. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Varga and Rosika Ferkis, and two brothers, John Ferkis and Steve Ferkis. Surviving are three daughters, Klara (Robert) Wozniak of New Carlisle, Agnes (Robert) Davis III of New London, NH, and Mary Ann Ferkis of Lafayette, IN; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer Wozniak, Michael Wozniak, Robert (Courtney) Davis IV and Joseph Davis; and 3 great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Emma and Olivia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Wednesday, September 5, 2012, in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. Family and friends may call from 4-8 Tuesday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at 5:15 pm.
