MISHAWAKA - Frank J. Schimizzi, 87, of Mishawaka, died Monday, April 4, 2016, at St. Joseph Medical Center. The Mishawaka native was born July 29, 1928, to Natale & Teresa (Garreffa) Schimizzi. Frank attended Mishawaka High School and then served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. On October 10, 1953, Frank married Theresa (Polito) Schimizzi, who preceded him in death on August 31, 2007, after 53 years of marriage. He retired from farming and also drove a school bus for PHM School District for 43 years. Frank's love for farming evolved into a passion for gardening; he also enjoyed hunting & fishing, playing golf, and was an avid football fan. He was devoted to his family & friends, was a member of Northway Church of Christ, Maria SS Diloreto and the VFW Post #360. In addition to his parents and his wife, Frank was also preceded in death by his daughter, Terri Redman, and his brother, Dominic Schimizzi. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Ellen (Steven) Rydberg of Orland Park IL; his son, Ned Schimizzi of Mishawaka; grandchildren, Nicole Schimizzi of Michigan City and Elizabeth (Dustin) Johnson of Trail Creek; great-grandchildren, Lillian Schimizzi, Londyn Johnson; and several cousins, including Ned V. Schimizzi of Mishawaka. Funeral services 2:00 Friday, April 8, 2016, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy., where friends may call one hour prior to services. Calling also 2-5 & 6-8 pm Thursday in the funeral home. Burial at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens with military honors. The family's preferred memorial is the Funeral Honor Guard at VFW Post #360, 1307 E. Jefferson Blvd., Mishawaka IN 46545.
