SOUTH BEND - Paul E. Kubsch Sr., 77, residing in South Bend, passed away at 1:15 am Thursday, January 8, 2015, in his home. He was born March 30, 1937, in South Bend, to the late Clarence and Jessie (Mead) Kubsch, and remained a lifelong area resident. On December 16, 1957, in Angola, IN, Paul married the former Mary K. Snyder, who survives. In addition to his loving wife of 57 years, he is survived by daughters, Sue (Barry) Davidson and Carole (Dan) Waterhouse, both of South Bend; son, Paul E. (Lisa) Kubsch Jr. of Granger; grandchildren, Kate Waterhouse, Bryce Waterhouse, Monica (Mike) Junk, Alex (Trisha) Kubsch, Elizabeth (J.J.) Johnson, Melanie (Josh) Davidson, Kris (Rachel) Kubsch, Michael (Valerie) Waterhouse and Alex Zehnpfennig; and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Sherry Bauer and Joy Kubsch. Paul served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. During that time, he enjoyed "Golden Gloves" boxing as well as curling. He worked as a lather and carpenter for Gibson-Lewis, FT Forsey and Factory Tile before retiring. He was a member of the Carpenters Local Union #413 for 50 years and served as treasurer for the Clay Democratic Club. Paul enjoyed softball and was part of the 1973 Fast Pitch National Championship Team from Misty Acres in Niles, MI. He also loved to mushroom hunt and play cards, cribbage, poker, and especially double pinochle and euchre. Funeral services for Paul will be held at 11:00 am Monday, January 12, 2015, in the Palmer Funeral Home - River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Graveside services and burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 - 6:00 pm Sunday, January 11, 2015, as well as one hour prior to services Monday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be donated to the Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545. Online condolences may be left for the Kubsch family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
