John Lewis Steinke, 74 years old, passed away at 1:18 p.m. on Monday, February 7, 2022 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. John was born on January 1, 1948 in South Bend to the late Carlton and Phyllis (Biggs) Steinke. He has remained a lifelong resident of South Bend. On July 23, 1977, John and Barbara A. Emerick were united in marriage. Barbara preceded him in death on March 26, 2017. Their infant daughter, Sandy A. Steinke, also preceded in death. John worked in food service for the University of Notre Dame for over 30 years. John is survived by his brother, Thomas E. (Linda) Steinke of South Bend; sister, Anne Lisa (David) Janke of South Bend; and two sisters-in-law, Judy (Frank) Bevins of Osceola and Sharon Kovach of Virginia Beach, VA. A time of gathering will be held at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend beginning at 10:00 a.m. until 12 noon, Tuesday, February 15, 2022. A private burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery, South Bend. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of John L.
