NEW CARLISLE - Caesar “Sid” Layman, 74, of New Carlisle, passed away peacefully at 9:40 a.m., Sunday, November 13, 2016 in his home. He was born on May 3, 1942, in La Porte, IN, to Reay “Roy” and Helen (Mrozinski) Layman. Sid owned and operated Sids Auto Service at his home garage for over forty years. He was well known, respected and loved in the community. Sid enjoyed spending time with family and friends, he always had an open door and a smile on his face. He loved his wife and family dearly. Sid had many friends that would hang out in the garage for hours solving the world problems. He was a father to the fatherless, a friend to the friendless and a helper to the helpless. He may have passed away from problems of the heart but while alive, using his heart was never a problem. On September 2, 1961, at St. John Kanty Church, in Rolling Prairie, IN, he married Dorothy (Wilhelm) Layman, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Kathy (Michael) Lowry of Walkerton, Tammy (Jeffery) Beere of Plymouth, and Donna (Jonathon) Taylor of New Carlisle; one brother, Harold “Hap” Layman of La Porte; six grandchildren, Crystal (Brady) Cyr, Richard Brady, Kelsea Miner, Lauren Chiszar, Baylee Brovold, Aaron and Andrew Taylor; and three great grandchildren, Issiah and Lilly Brady, and Ily Belle Brovold.Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Carol Lynn Layman; and his grandson, Richard Brady. An open house to celebrate the life of Sid will be held from 12 noon to 3 p.m. (CST), November 20, 2016 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church ,1480 Boyd Blvd., La Porte, IN 46350. A private family graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. (CST), November 19, 2016 at St. John Kanty Cemetery.
