MISHAWAKA - L. Paul "Whitey" Krege Jr. of Rivers Edge Court, Mishawaka, passed away at 4:25 a.m. Wednesday in Hospice House following an illness. He was born in LaPorte, Indiana, to Lloyd and Helen (Ribordy) Krege, who both preceded him in death. Mr. Krege worked at Uniroyal Corp. in Mishawaka from 1962 until 1969. He was a member of the Forman's Club Bowling League and the Eberhart Golf League. He joined the Mishawaka Fire Dept. on February 16, 1969, and retired August 16th, 1994, after 25 years of service holding several ranks. After retirement, he went to work at Eberhart Golf Course for eight years, and was director of golf for two years until retirement. He enjoyed golfing with his friends at Club 15. He owned a home in Florida and enjoyed spending the winter there. He is survived by his children, Terry Krege of Mishawaka, Dave (Tina) Krege of Granger and Kim (Joe) Makowski of Osceola. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Cory Krege, Kelsey Krege, Ben Makowski and Haley Makowski. One brother survives, Robert J. Krege of South Bend. He is also survived by his loving companion, Sharon Whitfield. The family will be receiving guests from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday and one hour prior to the services at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday in Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 North Main Street, Mishawaka. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Hospice House of Elkhart, which provided such loving care to Mr. Krege during his illness.
