SOUTH BEND - Alice Vargo, 91, passed away at 4:30 AM on Wednesday, August 24, 2011, in Regency Place. Alice was born on November 29, 1919, in South Bend, to the late Charles and Elizabeth (Bella) Cseresznyak. On October 12, 1940, she married Stephen J. Vargo, who preceded her in death in May 1972. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Irene Syczka; her brother, James Cseresznyak; and by two daughters, Nancy Vargo in 1947 and Nancy A. Vargo in May 1998. She is survived by her three children, Janice Elzeer of South Bend, Andrew S. (Denise) Vargo of South Bend and Stephen (Pat) Vargo of Osceola; six grandchildren, Brian (Christina) Vargo of Gainesville, VA, Laura (Chad) Picking of Bel Aire, KS, Stephen (Denise) Vargo of Mishawaka, Rob (Debbie) Vargo of Granger, Jim (Renee) Vargo of Granger and Tim Vargo of Osceola; ten great-grandchildren; and by her sister-in-law, Lorraine Vargo. Alice retired in 2000, from Real Services - Meals on Wheels program as a kitchen assistant. She was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm Friday, August 26, 2011, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 27, 2011, in Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.
