MISHAWAKA - Arthur E. Steenbeke Jr., 77, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2009 in Golden Living Center, Elkhart, his residence since October 6, 2008. Art was born on April 26, 1931 in Mishawaka to Arthur and Augusta (De Winter) Steenbeke. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Rosemary Kamerer, Joanne Kloski, and Dorothy Varda. On November 27, 1952 in St.Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka he married the former Lois DeLaurelle who preceded him in death on December 27, 2004. They were married for 52 years. Surviving Arthur are his daughter Betty (“Kip”) Ashley of Mission Viejo, CA; four brothers, Thomas F.of Fort Worth, TX, John C.of Elkhart, Joseph J.of Mishawaka and William A. of Mishawaka; three sisters, Angela (Steenbeke) Weber, Patricia (Steenbeke) Marsic of South Bend and Nancy (Steenbeke) Dakins of Mishawaka; and two brothers-in-law, Larry DeLaurelle and Chuck DeLaruelle along with many nieces and nephews; three grandchildren, Brenda (Pat) Meagher, Monica Ashley and Renee Ruiz; one great grandchild Vivian Ruiz. Art was the owner and operator of Elbode’s Arco Service on Fourth Street in Mishawaka for 35 years until he retired. After retirement, he worked for Valley Auto Electric on McKinley for 14 years. Art was a member of the BK Club and a former member of the Eagles Post #2083 for many years. Art will be remembered as a very generous man who offered his help and expertise to he knew. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Golden Living Center, Elkhart for all of their loving care and support during Art’s stay with them. They were so kind and caring not only to Art but to his family as well. Family and friends may visit from 2 to 6 p.m.on Sunday, February 22nd in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W.8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, February 23rd in the funeral home with Rev. Barry England of St.Bavo Catholic Church officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to honor Arthur’s name to the American Cancer Society, 601 W.Edison, Mishawaka, IN 46545 and to the Alzheimer’s Services of Northern Indiana, 922 E.
