Koszuty
The museum is situated in a very popular for Polish tradition family house, which is the noble mansion. War destructions, after war expropriations of the land owners and the land authorities politics focusing on selective protection of the national tradition caused desolation and disappearance of the great majority of Polish mansions. The Museum in Koszuty, which apart from the conservative protection of the relict building took up the effort of its inside reconstruction, is a unique phenomena within the whole country. The mansion is set in the Koszuty village, in the distance of 30 km south from Poznan', by the mobile road leading to ?©ddz' and Katowice. There are well-known and eagerly visited palaces and park groups in K©drnik (6 km), Rogalin (25 km) and S'mie?owo (35 km).
The mansion in Koszuty was probably set up immediately after 1750 as a framework made out of a larch wood and clay on the oak ground plate, with fragments build of bricks. It is a ground floor building with an attic partly used for residential purposes, turned into the 11 o`clock, which means that thea fa©'ade is directed to the south, slightly bended on the east. This is an eleven-axis facade (with eleven holes for the windows and doors), with an exhibition and a wooden, decorated rooftop. There is a wooden porch detached to the facade by the main, entrance door, underlining the building symmetry. The roof above the major core of the mansion is high, broken, cupola-shaped above the corner annexes. The front corner annexes faced with the wall, the back broken. The mansion has been covered with the shingle.
The inside of the mansion was planned regularly and symmetrically. The central spot is taken by an oval saloon preceded by hall. There were two rooms on the right and left side, with the outline close to a square, further on the right and left there were two alters (front and back one) together with the in-between alters annex. There were five rooms situated in the attic which repeat the symmetrical outline of the ground floor. The present state of the mansion in Koszuty is a result of the reconstruction carried in 1902. The shape and size of the corner annexes were replaced by shingle coverings of the roof into the black one. The maintained division of the insides and some of the decorative elements allow, apart from the further changes, including the mansion in Koszuty to the monuments of the baroque period.
There is an interiors exhibition called A small landowning residence in Wielkopolska Province. The function of the interiors remained compatible with the former inside division of the mansion. Six rooms were imitated: the dining room, living room, the salon, Mistresss room, Lords room and childrens room. Practically, furniture is presented in each room, paintings and items used at home made until the I World War period, exceptionally until 1939 (childrens room). Special attention is placed on gathering of the exhibits which would link the mansion in Koszuty with history of Wielkopolska Province and small items illustrating everyday life of the contemporary inhabitants. The mansion is situated in a small scenic park, where current revalorization works are being carried. The accepted concept of restoring the devastated mansion park was rewarded in 1994 with a golden medal of the then Ministry of Culture and Art. The museum is funded by local authorities of S'roda Wielkopolska.
