South Bend Tribune 5/11/1997
SOUTH BEND - Irene Rose Garber, 88, passed away after a brief illness at 7:27 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, in St. Joseph's Medical Center. Irene was born to Michael and Martha Kubiak on July 14, 1908, in South Bend. On Jan. 10, 1927, she married Charles Garber, who preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 1974. Irene was a caring and compassionate woman who spent her life believing in the goodness of people, and encouraged tolerance and acceptance of all. She was an honest and intelligent woman who valued family. She had a great sense of humor and brought smiles and good times to all who knew her. She always had a joke to tell and loved to listen to anyone who had one to tell. She was dedicated to providing a warm, happy home to her children and raised them with dignity, respect and love. She loved all children. Our mother had a big heart and made everyone feel wanted, needed, important and special, never leaving anyone out. A charitable woman, Irene believed in giving too much. She gave unconditional love and understanding, a shoulder to cry on, open arms to hug, a hand to hold and an ear to forever listen. We will miss these about her, but cherish them in our hearts forever. We will all miss her dearly.
