NOTRE DAME, IN - Gratia M. “Gay” Eades, 96, passed away peacefully February 7, 2021. Born May 14, 1924 in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Conrad and Ernestine (Paulus) Strack. On August 20, 1949, Gay married the love of her life, Dr. R. Charles “Chuck” Eades. He preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 1998. She was also predeceased by their first son, Charles Joseph Eades, when he was just a child. Left to cherish her memory are six children: Beverly (Keith) Shanks of Scottsdale, AZ, Elizabeth (Thomas) Schorgl of Shaker Heights, OH, James (Lynne) Eades of Carmel, IN, David Eades of South Bend, Robert (Barbara) Eades of Raleigh, NC, and Catherine (Paul) Decker of Pinckney, MI, 17 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Gay graduated from St. Agnes Academy in Indianapolis and worked as a flight attendant for American Airlines until 1949. She lived a long fulfilling life. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and also used her gifts to give to others. She was a volunteer with Christ Child Society, Corvilla, and a co-founder of South Riding Antiques and of Dollmakers. She had a special devotion to the Holy Rosary and was an Associate of the Holy Cross Brothers. The funeral will be private. A celebration of Gay's life will take place at a later date.
