KOONTZ LAKE - Joseph Martin Malec Jr. passed away Saturday, April 7, 2018 at LaPorte Hospital, LaPorte, IN. Joseph was born October 3, 1943 in Chicago to Joseph and Mildred (Sherbert) Malec and lived in the area for 17 years, coming from Chicago. On April 12, 1965 in Chicago, he married the former Janice Norman, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include two sons, Bobby Malec and Martin Malec Sr.; one stepdaughter, Veronica (Bill) Manos; three stepsons, Kenneth Chapman, Myron Chapman, and William Chapman; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one sister, Darlene (Emil) Ochodnicky; and three brothers, James Malec, John Malec, and Daniel Malec. Joseph was a policeman with the Chicago Police Department for 30 years. He was a member of St. Dominic Church of Koontz Lake and the Starke County HAM Radio Club. Funeral Services will be Monday, April 16, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. CDT at Central Chapel Funeral Home, Chicago. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Justice, IL. Visitation will be Friday evening at Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., where a Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be held Sunday at the Central Chapel Funeral Home in Chicago from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. CDT.
