On January 24, 1882, Lawrence Bartol, son of Thomas Bartol, married Mary Egierski, daughter of Antoni Egierski, at St. Hedwig Catholic Church in South Bend, Indiana. According to the census records, they had at least three children: Salomea, Frank, and Ludwig (and/or Louise). The St. Hedwig Catholic Church interment records indicate that Mary died from a cold on June 2, 1891, at the age of 30. (The St. Hedwig interment records also list Helena Bartol, who died July 4, 1891, at the age of ten weeks, so she is possibly another one of their children.)

Lawrence next married Mary Katczynski, daughter of John Katczynski, on November 1, 1891, at St. Hedwig Catholic Church. According to the census records, they had five children of whom four were living in 1900: Wojciech (aka George), Stanley, Jacob ("Jack"), and Joseph. (The St. Hedwig interment records list John Bartol, who died of croup on October 7, 1893, at the age of one year, so he may have been the first of the five children born to this marriage.)

By 1920, the Bartols had moved from 912 Napier St. to 701 Harrison St. in South Bend. Lawrence died in 1925. His widow and two of their sons, Joseph and Jack, continued to live at the Harrison St. address. Joseph married in 1932, and his wife came to live with them. Mary Bartol was living at that address when she died in 1943, and her son Joseph was living there when he died in 1971.
